Colleagues, I bring you greetings from the Medical Association of Jamaica Foundation.
The Foundation has had some significant achievements this financial year.
I am pleased to inform you that the approval of name change was granted to us on October 19, 2022 and we are now designated as:
The Medical Association of Jamaica Foundation (MAJ Foundation)
We have added a legal and financial luminary to our cadre of officers namely Mr. Wesley Carr and Mr. Basil Parker.
Our primary mission remains to: “ensure that all incapacitated MAJ members with material needs who apply to the Foundation are offered support and assistance.”
The MAJ Foundation pledges to provide assistance to approved applicants to a maximum of 10% of our asset base annually.
For the period January 2023 to August 31, 2023 we have assisted two colleagues to date with a donation of $400,000.00.
We have striven valiantly to increase our asset base through fund raising efforts and voluntary donations ,and between November 2021 to August 31,2023 we have had a cash inflow of $ 413,052.00, this translates into an annual inflow of $137,684.00. This is significantly below our projection this year of $591,915.15 ie 15% of our asset base.
Pleased be reminded that as our asset base increases our ability to expand the scope of assistance to our colleagues will also increase.
We are therefore encouraging all MAJ members to assist us in this endeavour by pledging a donation to the foundation using any of the options listed below:
Some proposals we have promulgated to date are :
- A one off lump sum donation from each member.
- A yearly deposit of $ 500.00 per year since graduation
- Small insurance policies with MAJ as the beneficiary.
- Annual donations from the MAJ member Associations.
- Fundraising events: plays ,art auctions etc
- A monthly standing order courtesy of the members designated bank to deduct a small fee of $3,000.00 to$5,000.00 monthly to the Foundation
- Quarterly sponsored hybrid seminars
Please see the form for making your pledge.
We will be employing a MAJ Foundation representative who will be visiting all doctors island wide to facilitate the fund raising activity.
We also plan to collaborate with a number of NGO,s and government agencies to assist the Foundation and contacts have been made with : the NHF, CHASE Fund, The Food For the Poor organization and the Ministry of Health Compassionate Fund.
